Our award-winning new development Castor Park is located in the lively suburb of Allington, just outside Maidstone. But how much do you really know about Allington? Read on for an overview of the area, as we look at the local amenities and attractions it has to offer.

Local Attractions

Allington Castle was originally built in the 12th century and adds a bit of history to the surroundings, while Allington Lock and sluice is another charming key feature, which the popular Malta Inn restaurant makes the most of, offering dining in the garden along the river front. The Mid Kent Shopping Centre in the village offers convenient local shopping for everyday needs, with a supermarket, newsagents, opticians, beauty salon, hairdressers, pharmacy, and vets.

The community playing fields are ideal for summer picnics and spots, and Mote Park and Cobtree Manor Park are just a short drive away for larger scale outdoor leisure. Maidstone town centre offers activities to cater for all ages with a number of independent and high street shops, restaurants, leisure complex including cinema, bowling alley and trampoline park, leisure centre, and several bars and clubs.

Local Schools

If you have children, or think they may be part of your future before long, you’re going to want to know what schools are near to your new home. Allington, close as it is to Maidstone, has plenty of education options. There are two primary schools nearby – Allington Primary School and Palace Wood Primary. Allington Primary was rated ‘outstanding’ in its latest Ofsted report, while Palace Wood was rated ‘good’.

Within both the centre and outskirts of Maidstone town are some excellent secondary schools. Both the boys and girls Maidstone Grammar schools were rated ‘outstanding’ in their last Ofsted reports, as were Oakwod Park Grammar and Valley Park. The regular bus service means children can easily travel to school each day, with a very short journey time.

Transport Links

The regular bus service which includes a Park and Ride service, provides daily transport into Maidstone town centre. The local Barming train station is within walking distance from Castor Park, and provides trains direct to London – ideal for both commuters and day trips. Road travel is also a convenient option, with the M20 and M25 easily accessible.
