Kent Summer Activities

21-07-2021 Blog

Wondering how to spend your time during summer in Kent? Read on for a couple of our suggestions, from family days out to a trip down the pub, there’s something in here for everyone!

Visit the seaside

On a warm summer’s day, a trip to the seaside is always lovely. Whether you like long walks along the beach, a swim in the sea or a relaxing sunbathe, there is plenty to do on a hot day out to the beach.

Kent’s coastline is a beautiful place to visit all year round, especially in Summer. With coastlines like Margate, Whitstable and Broadstairs to choose from, Kent boasts several blue flag award winning beaches. In White Cliffs Country, the coastal town of Deal with its award-winning high street and unspoiled seafront is frequently highlighted as one of the best places to visit in England.

A trip down the pub

A cold pint on a warm summer’s day is sometimes just what the doctor ordered. In Kent, there are plenty of locations with relaxing pubs and beer gardens, allowing you to unwind with your cold drink while enjoying the stunning scenery around you. Some standout pubs with beer gardens include The Coastguard in Dover (Britain’s nearest pub to France!), The Sun Inn at Faversham and Old Neptune in Whitstable. Additionally, if you have children there are plenty of pubs around which are family friendly with play areas for kids, such as The Captain Digby in Broadstairs.

For those who want a more cultured experience, there are excellent wineries around in Kent. Chapel Down, the UK wine industry’s leader, is located in the beautiful Kent countryside, close to the picturesque market town of Tenterden. Hush Heath Estate is another popular Kent winery. A family-run English wine estate, expert-led winery tours and guided wine tastings all year round, but they are especially beautiful in summer.

Family days out

Kent provides countless opportunities for family days out. If you have children in school, booking fun places to go to when school’s out can be tricky, but there is a wide array of places to visit with your family in Kent.

There is an excellent array of action-packed days out for the adrenaline seekers among you. Buckmore Park Kart Circuit provides a fun go karting experience for all ages, adventure playgrounds (including Go Ape, the UK’s number 1 outdoor adventure company), Kent life is an open-air museum with caters for all ages, and there are several waterparks.

Bluewater Shopping Centre deserves its own paragraph. Bluewater is surrounded by 50 acres of beautiful, landscaped parkland. It has more than enough to do and see on a day out. In addition to the massive shopping centre, Bluewater is host to restaurants, a cinema, footpaths and lakes to explore, as well as a boating lake and Pirate Cove mini golf.

For a somewhat calmer family experience, there are plenty of green spaces and parks across the county if you want to unwind and enjoy the (hopefully) nice summer weather. There are also some incredible wildlife parks which are available to visit, including Port Lympne Reserve and Howletts Wildlife Park.

History

If you are interested in history and historical sites, Kent has plenty to provide for you. Leeds Castle near Maidstone, coined “The loveliest castle in the world” is set in 500 acres of parkland which hosts a number of festivals and exhibitions throughout the year.

Canterbury Cathedral is another beautiful site to see, it is one of the oldest and most famous Christian structures in England. The Historic Dockyards in Chatham allow you to step into the heart of Chatham’s legendary ship building heritage and return to the ‘Age of Sail’, when the Dockyard built mighty ships that won command of the world’s oceans.

Relax

On a hot summer’s day, wherever you are in the world, sometimes it’s just best to kick your feet up and relax. So if you feel like having a nice day at home or at a local park, feel free to grab a chair or sun lounger, put your sunglasses on and enjoy the moment.
